Muscle mass and strength are among the strongest predictors of healthspan. Without resistance training, adults lose ~1% of their muscle per year after 40.

The minimum effective dose

Two 30-minute sessions a week, covering all the major movement patterns: squat, hinge, push, pull, carry.

Bodyweight is enough to start

Squats, push-ups, rows and planks — add resistance bands or dumbbells as you get stronger.

Eat enough protein

Aim for 1.2–1.6 g per kg of body weight daily, spread across meals, to support muscle growth and repair.
